Real update! and administrative stuff.

A good webmaster must do more than update her site. She must study logs, find problems and fix them, figure out what her readers want. Be dynamic.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that for a while. Going on vacation tomorrow, and will be gone for a while. I don't know exactly how long, but I'll be back before the end of July. My vacation place has almost no internet connectivity, and even if it did, I have other things to do than to work on the site.

Looking at the recent visitors log today, I noticed two new IPs belonging to Google Cache, and added them to the list of allowed referrers. When viewing the character list cached, from a referrer that hasn't been added to the allowed list, the ugly "no hotlinking" image will appear instead of the normal ones.
Alternatively, I could ask google to not cache the page, forcing people to go to the actual page.. but I like Google Cache, its highlighting of the search term is nifty. I just wish Google had a list of its IP addresses handy so I could add them pre-emptively.

Have also removed the guestbook. Only one real person ever signed it, and it gathered a lot of spam. Since I won't be around to delete entries, I'm taking the whole thing down. I don't think I'll put it back up again.

Now for the update: The character now has a part 4 - The Uchiha clan.

Updated earlier today. Episode 139 credits, and I touched up the special jounin profiles page a little, adding some information from the second databook. Should've done that right after I got the book, but I've been lazy.

Hacking away at the backlog

Did several more episodes, completing 109 to present. Current backlog: 79 episodes.
Corrected an incorrect kanji in a character name in the character list.

Solved the issue of the ugly "no hotlinking" image turning up when viewing the character list as cached by a search engine by adding 216.239.59.104 (google cache), translate.google.com and a couple of Japanese search engines to the list of allowed referers. Will add more as I become aware of them from reading my recent visitors log.

By the way, using google to translate the character list is hilarious.

Still somewhat low on motivation for continuing to maintain the site. Too much copying and pasting. I suppose it's time I get back to working on the most popular part of the site: the character list. But no one have complained about lack of updates yet.

I'm bored.

Routine upkeep, copy-and-paste, the occasional lookup.
The backlog is still enormous. I've done roughly one third of the episodes.

And I'm neglecting the other parts of the site. The character list, the profiles..
There is stuff I could update if only I felt like doing it.

I was writing a rather long post, with more detailed insight into my work, but then I got sidetracked, browsed elsewhere, and my browser crashed. All was lost. And I can't be bothered to re-write it, because it's almost midnight and I am tired.

Today's update: episodes 127-128 and 138 have their pages up. That's all.

massive minor update

Kind of like an oxymoron, but anyway..

The past couple of days, as well as today, I have put a lot of work into the episodes part of the site, reducing the backlog down to 95 episodes. Almost one third of all the episodes covered.

Touched up Part 2 of the character list a little; a misplaced <hr> tag corrected, a missing seiyuu name in Kanji added, and one in Romaji.

It would be very useful for me to have the manga for reference, so I've decided to buy all the volumes in Japanese. Currently I only have volumes 16 and 24 in Japanese, and 1-4 in English. The English translation is not good.
(I bought volume 16 because that's the only one Yuugao appears in, and I wanted to read the original, untranslated dialogue, and got 24 because I could affort to buy one more, and that was the latest released at that time.)

So I'll be ordering a lot of them when I get paid on Wednesday. Wednesday is also the release date for the latest opening and ending singles of Naruto. I want to buy those too, but I'm not sure if I can afford to.

I wonder if there's any interest in a guide to buying Naruto-related items?

Today's (well, technically yesterday's, but I'm still awake) episode 137 credits gave me a bit of a challenge - but I seem to have gotten it right in the end. A good cup of Sencha makes anything possible.

Also did episodes 82 and 83, which put up less resistance, but still a little.
